Happy 1st birthday, Joe!
We had a really fun party in the courtyard of our building. Dad grilled burgers, chicken, and veggie burgers, and we celebrated with lots of family and friends. Both sets of grandparents came, and Aunt Kirby and Uncle Patrick flew in. Lots of friends were there, too!

He was a little unsure of the cake at first, but he dug right in! (He got to see how it was done a couple weeks before when his BFF, Jude, had his first birthday and devoured his first cupcake!)
Here are a few other pics of the party:

And here was the cake before its ill-fated collapse:

(Mom had a 15-minute breakdown when the bottom tier of the home-made, took-all-day-to-bake, Irrational-I'm-a-good-mom-because-I-made-the-cake, cake collapsed about half-hour before the party was to begin. However, I quickly recovered and realized I was being a freak, and no one was the wiser when we served the delicious, albeit a bit smushed, pieces of cake.)
