Joey the Minnow

Today is a perfect summer day -- about 75 degrees, sunny, no humidity. This is what I remember all my childhood summer days to be like, except that every one of them (from 9am to 9pm) was spent at Forestbrooke Pool. Well, there's no janky, 20-yard pool nearby, but we did explore the nearest NYC public pool today. It's FREE, and apparently they have free lunches for the kids, but we went in the afternoon, so don't know about that. (Cynthia and I are taking the kids next week if it's nice out, so I'll check it out then.)

Anyway, Joey loved the water. We played "Motor Boat, Motor Boat", and I threw him up in the air to make big splashes. He was not afraid of putting his face in the water, although I think blowing bubbles is a bit sophisticated for him at this point... baby steps.

I was SO happy taking him swimming today that I made John capture a couple photos. (I think these are contraband because you're not supposed to have electronics on deck.) Not so happy, though, about getting a slight sunburn after only 40 minutes in the sun. (Me, not Joe. He had SPF 60 everywhere on his body.) Truly sad.
True story: Before Joey was born, the only ounce of vanity John displayed was to wish that our child would get his skin tone. Sorry, Dad. He, too, will blind everyone at the pool over the course of his lifetime.
